Hunter Safety Courses
The NY Hunter Education course (Hunter Safety course) is required to purchase a hunting license in New York. The course covers the necessary safety techniques and responsibilities that a hunter must know when using a gun, muzzleloader, crossbow or bow to pursue wild game.
Last year the club held a successful Youth Trout Derby at member Ed Unkel’s Pond in the spring. Open to club youth members and their friends, the event gained some attention. The pond was stocked with some nice trout provided to us from the Beaverkill NY fish hatchery. This was our first time doing an event like this and it turned out to be a success. Around 20 kids showed up in search of “ Big Bertha” and the rest of the hungry fish in the water. After all the fishing, food, and fun, the determined anglers all received prizes for their days catch. So this years event will be held on Sunday, April 28th starting at 9 AM. Hope to see you there!

Game Dinner
Usually, in February, the members get together and participate in the annual free game dinner. Each member will bring a dish for others to try. It ends up being a smorgasbord of food. What started out as an actual game dinner has now morphed into a bring what-you-got event with all sorts of fare being served. Couple that with some really nice door prizes and numerous firearms raffles, and you have a great time. Being that February is usually a cold and nasty month it is always good to get out and beat back that cabin fever.
Adopt a highway
“Four times a year club members participate in the Adopt a Highway program to help keep a 2 mile stretch of Rt. 9 in Livingston NY clean for travelers and the local community. It doesn’t take us long and there is a positive response from those who are driving by while we are at work!”

Kids to camp
Each year the club will sponsor youth to go to one of the NYS Dec environmental camps. The camps combine environmental education, hunter education programs, and outdoor recreation into a fun adventure. They use a hands-on approach to teach about the environment. Camps run Sunday afternoon through Friday afternoon.
Campers will have the opportunity to learn outdoor skills including backpacking, camping, and canoeing. They will explore New York's diverse habitats, have the chance to learn basic ecological concepts, and how human activities affect the environment. Campers solve challenges, explore environmental concepts, practice outdoor skills, and spend the week immersed in nature. The 2022 Camp Season marked 75 years of fostering a love for the natural world.
Our next fishing trip will be Monday June 3rd 2024.
If you are interested in going contact Joe at 518-965-4990 to get your name on the list. This past trip sold out all 35 spots that were available. We are chartering the Blackhawk2 out of Niantic Ct.
I want to thank the 35 anglers who attended our second annual Kalicoontie fishing trip yesterday. From now on to be known as Porgypalooza this event was a great success. We had another beautiful weather day and the fish were definitely cooperating as well. The morning started out with us jigging for Stiped Bass and ended with us plucking boat limits of Scup off the bottom. Photos and videos will be coming soon! Get in on the action while the fishing is red hot. Sign up for the next trip which will be end of June. You can’t catch ‘em from the couch!
Please call Joe at 518-965-4990 for any questions. Motel 6 on Flanders road, Niantic is where i stay when i am down there. Not the Taj Majal but a place to stay that is 15 mins from the boat.
