Yesterday the Kalicoontie Rod and Gun Club with the help of Ed Unkel and friends held our first youth fishing derby in years. The tournament was held at Ed Unkel’s pond at his property in Hudson NY. Starting at 8am in the morning and running till noon, the day was filled with food, fun, friends, and fish! Over 20 youth participants ( 24 total ) were entered in the contest which saw all going home with some sort of prize or another. A great day that we hope to do again next year. Here are some photos from yesterday. A great big thank you to all who helped make this great day possible. Worms and minnows were purchased from Hook line and Sinker bait shop in Red Hook. Some of the wonderful prizes given to the entrants were donated by the bait shop also. Thank You !

Friday the 13th was an unlucky day for any fish that were swimming near us in the Peconic bay. A good number of them ended up on the deck of the boat and eventually made their way to the coolers. Seventeen of us set out from Niantic CT and took the ride accross the sound to the Peconic bays area where the fish are congregating right now. A foggy start to the day gave way to some sunshine and a boatload of fish for everyone. Many of us catching close to the limit of thirty Scup each. Some nice weakfish and seabass rounded out the catching during the day. Great time was had by all. Below are some pictures of the catch.
